Less than two days after stating that Adrian Peterson would play in Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, the Minnesota Vikings announced that their star running back would be barred from all team activities "while allowing him to take care of his personal situation until the legal proceedings are resolved." The announcement was made at about 1am Wednesday in Minnesota.
The team initially benched Peterson after he was indicted on child abuse charges in Texas last Friday, but announced Monday that the player would be allowed to remain on the team pending the outcome of his case. The Vikings' decision garnered much controversy and had fans, women's groups and sponsors concerned that the team was not taking Peterson's charges seriously.
In announcing the reversal of their decision, Vikings team owners Zygi Wilf and Mark Wilf stated, "While we were trying to make a balanced decision yesterday, after further reflection we have concluded that this resolution is best for the Vikings and for Adrian."
