LAPD, LASD Plan St. Patrick's Day DUI Patrols & Checkpoints

St. Patrick's Day may be on a Tuesday this year, but plenty of Southern California residents are still planning their St. Paddy's parties. As authorities and safety officials have noted continuously throughout the years, however, these St. Patrick's Day celebrations do have their downfall - they consistently see a spike in alcohol-related crimes and DUIs.

Law enforcement officials are well aware of increased risks during St. Patrick's Day, which is why they often ramp up their efforts to hit the streets and give extra attention to motorists who may be under the influence.

According to a recent press release, both the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) will be on high alert for drunk drivers throughout the day and night. Local agencies will also be increasing their focus on DUIs.

LASD will be conducting rolling DUI Patrols - in addition to normal enforcement - in the following locations:

  • Palmdale
  • Malibu
  • Bellflower
  • Pico Rivera

LAPD will be conducting saturation patrols (more officers on the lookout for intoxicated drivers) and DUI checkpoints at various locations throughout the county, including:

  • DUI checkpoint at Spring & Seventh streets
  • DUI checkpoint at Highland & DeLongpre avenues in Hollywood
  • Saturation patrols in South Los Angeles
  • Saturation patrols in North Hollywood
