Authorities Throughout Los Angeles, Southern California on High Alert for Holiday DUIs

Tis the season for holiday parties, and that often means more impaired drivers on the road. In fact, crash data from the U.S. Department of Transportation shows that this time of year, including the Christmas and New Year's holidays, typically sees a dramatic spike in alcohol-involved auto accidents. Already in the past few weeks following Thanksgiving, we've seen many tragic drunk driving accidents around the Southland.

In an effort to rid public roads and highways of drunk and drugged drivers this holiday season, law enforcement agencies across Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties have already begun increasing their efforts to make DUI arrests. This past weekend, LAPD officers conducted numerous checkpoints across Los Angeles County. They also hit the streets for saturation patrols.

As Christmas approaches, officials from Los Angeles law enforcement agencies are urging drivers to stay sober or find a ride this week. Officials have stated that through Christmas, the following weekend, and New Year's, an increased number of officers will be on the road to enforce DUI laws in the following ways:

  • DUI Checkpoints at various times and locations known for alcohol-involved accidents
  • Saturation Patrols involving more officers on the roads
  • Increased Traffic Stops when officers notice signs of driver impairment
