Attorney J. Tooson Secures Reduction of Felony Charges in Case Against Former USC Football Player

Lessem, Newstat & Tooson, LLP Partner J. Tooson was recently successful in reducing felony charges against his client, former USC cornerback Jack Jones. In June, Jones and two other suspects were arrested and charged with felony crimes, including felony commercial burglary and felony conspiracy to commit a crime.

In a statement that has been published by ESPN and other major news outlets, Attorney J. Tooson reported that a plea agreement reached with prosecutors reduced the two felony charges to a single misdemeanor count of commercial burglary.

"As part of this plea, Jack will be on unsupervised probation and expects house arrest in lieu of any jail time," Attorney J. Tooson's statement said. "Jack is extremely grateful to the Court for the dismissal and looks forward to putting this incident behind him."

The case, which earned national coverage, posed serious and life-altering consequences for the football standout, including both a potential prison sentence and the loss of civil rights which accompanies felony convictions. Jones, who was rated as one of the nation’s top cornerbacks in the 2016 recruiting class and who started for USC as a sophomore, now intends to continue his education and return to football.
